Bethesda (MD), June 13, 2006 — Prematics™ today announced that former U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Tommy Thompson has joined its Executive Council. Thompson's fellow Council members include Senator John Breaux (ret.) and Frank Newman, former Chairman and CEO of Eckerd Corporation. Prematics has developed and is delivering ScriptToneSM, the nation's first fully managed electronic prescribing service that promises to transform the $250 billion prescription drug supply chain.
"I have spent much of my career developing new and innovative programs to help enhance the quality and scope of health care in the U.S.," said Thompson. "That is why I'm so excited about working with Prematics. Its fresh approach to electronic prescribing not only promises to save patient's money and provide them with better care, but also makes the prescribing process more convenient and less costly for everyone in the prescription supply chain – including doctors, pharmacies, insurance companies, health plans, and employers."
"I am very happy to welcome Secretary Tommy Thompson to Prematics' Executive Council," said Scott Puritz, CEO of Prematics. "A confluence of trends makes the complex drug prescription industry ripe for radical transformation. I believe that the Secretary's insights into the regulatory, policy and commercial environment surrounding Prematics will help the Company drive mass adoption of electronic prescribing."
Before entering the private sector in 2005, Secretary Thompson enjoyed a long and distinguished career in public service. As the head of the Department of Health & Human Services, Secretary Thompson served as the nation's leading advocate for the health and welfare of all Americans. He worked to modernize and add prescription drug coverage to Medicare for the first time in the program's history. A leading advocate of welfare reform, he also focused on expanding services to seniors, the disabled and low-income Americans.
As governor of Wisconsin, Secretary Thompson was perhaps best known for his efforts to revitalize the Wisconsin economy, for his national leadership on welfare reform and for his work in expanding health care access across all segments of society. He is a former chairman of the National Governors' Association, the Education Commission of the States and the Midwestern Governors' Conference. Secretary Thompson has received numerous awards for his public service, including Governing Magazine's Public Official of the Year Award and the Horatio Alger Award.
"I see Tommy Thompson's involvement with Prematics as a natural extension of his public service work," explained James Bradley, Prematics' Chairman of the Board of Directors. "Both roles involve creating awareness and designing programs to help get the right drugs to people in the most efficient way possible."
