Harrisburg, PA (June 25, 2007) - A groundbreaking new wireless electronic prescribing service, ScriptToneSM, is drawing the interest of the region's technology titans. Prematics, the company that developed and is deploying ScriptTone, is slated to present the first-of-its-kind e-prescribing service to local technology leaders at this year's Pennsylvania Health Information Exchange (HIE), hosted by the Technology Council of Central Pennsylvania. The summit will be held on June 26 at the Hershey Country Club.
ScriptTone is a physician-designed, user-friendly replacement to the error-riddled paper-based prescription system that contributes to 1.5 million medication errors and 7,000 deaths annually, according to Scott Puritz, CEO of Prematics.
"For today's busy physician, using paper-based prescriptions is like going to war with a pocket knife," said Puritz. "Through the deployment of ScriptTone, our goal is to leverage technology that empowers physicians to make highly informed decisions and deliver safer, more efficient and cost-effective care. Prematics is honored to share our e-prescribing initiative with the Technology Council as an example of how cutting-edge technology is improving healthcare in Central Pennsylvania."
How ScriptTone Works
ScriptTone is designed to fit seamlessly into physicians' workflow by delivering real-time, patient-specific prescribing information directly to the doctor's hand. Using a state-of-the-art handheld wireless device that operates on Prematics' intelligent and reliable high-speed network, the service is completely free to physicians and includes ongoing neighborhood-based support.
Physicians using ScriptTone can access patient medication history and drug benefit information at the point of care. This helps prevent serious medication errors or drug interactions and saves patients money through the use of lower cost generic equivalents. And, because ScriptTone electronically transmits accurate, legible prescriptions directly to the retail pharmacy, patients will no longer face frustrations and delays resulting from misunderstood hand-written prescriptions.
